Course Description and Syllabus     Teaching Materials Grid

This course is being offered in a special international format for Spring 2007. No passport required.

In Spring 2007, FINC 858 (Corporate Governance, MBA Level) will be offered in virtual joint sessions with the UD MBA Program at the Sarajevo Graduate School of Business (SGB). Post-war Bosnia is a rebuilding and transition economy in need of world-standard corporate governance and students in the UD MBA Bosnia program are  executives who will help shape Bosnia’s economic and political future.

Using video conferencing technology, US and Bosnian students will participate in the same class. The class meets on nine (9) Saturday mornings* from 8:00 am-12:15pm EST. This format will allow the Bosnian students to participate in real time in many of the nine sessions.

This course studies corporate governance around the world with a particular focus on its importance for investors. Students who complete this course in this format may count it towards their international requirement or toward an International Business concentration.

US and European students will work together on several cases and projects. Web-based teamwork software and private workspaces will be provided, so that student groups can easily share their writing and information. The intention is that our in-class workgroups will operate in much the same manner as geographically dispersed teams in corporations.

The instructor is Professor Paul Laux. Professor Laux has previously worked with the World Bank on corporate governance in the Balkans, teaches frequently in Europe, and has recently published his research on corporate governance in the top finance journal.
