Keeping your system up-to-date


New vulnerabilities and bugs are discovered in Windows Operating Systems several times a month.  It is important to update your system regularly through a process called patching.  Microsoft has created a web site at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to assist you in keeping your computer patched.

The CITA staff of the Lerner College is happy to assist you with installing these updates.  Frequently, however, a vulnerability is so serious that your system could be compromised before a CITA can reach your machine to patch it.  In a few cases, serious damage to your system can occur, resulting in several days of downtime for you while we repair your machine.  When these especially serious vulnerabilities emerge, the CITA staff will send you an e-mail telling you to run Windows Update on your own.
